Winners of prizes in the British Underwater Photography Championship 2011 have been announced.

The event was held last weekend at the Mount Batten centre in Plymouth, Devon.

53 would-be Alex Mustards registered to take part in the competition, which was judged by a panel including, er, Alex Mustard.

Peter Rowlands of the UwP and Neil Hope of the Plymouth Western Morning News were also on hand to assess entries.

Competitors had from midnight until 6.30pm to take an underwater image in the Plymouth area. Although a few failed to submit an entry due to unforeseen circumstances, in total more than 100 images made the deadline for consideration.

Organised by the British Society of Underwater Photographers (BSoUP), the four categories were Marine Life, Mankind in the Sea, Abstract and Humorous.

Dan Bolt won the overall award for his split level shot of a starfish in a rock pool. Colin Yule won the Compact Camera class with his shot of a Tompot Blenny, whilst Annette Millar took the gong for a Humorous shot of a Sea Cucumber.

The complete list of winners is available on the BSoUP website, with a 2012 Splash In event already planned.
