Basking Sharks flood in

A number of Basking Sharks have been spotted off the south west coast of Britain.

The Basking Shark is the second largest fish in the sea, trumped only by the Whale Shark in terms of scale.

However, Whale Sharks are found in more temperate waters than our own.

Basking Sharks were the focus of Britain’s Secret Seas, a new documentary series first broadcast on Sunday 8th May on BBC2.

For a short period from around Easter, they migrate from deep water right into the shallows around the west coast of the country.

And now these amazing creatures have been spotted feeding on the plankton-rich waters of Devon and Cornwall.

Porthkerris Divers are planning to run a Basking Shark Trip this Sunday, May 15th at 2pm.

They expect the sharks to be around now for 3-4 weeks, and say they will be running trips for as long as they are about.
