Saturation divers face almighty row

A group of four saturation (‘sat’) divers are set to row across the Atlantic this winter in an attempt to raise money for the Wessex Cancer Trust and the British Legion.

The Bubbleheads is a team of four divers will embark on their major rowing challenge from La Gomera in the Canary Isles to Antigua in the Caribbean, in an attempt to complete the 3,000-mile Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2021.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is supporting the attempt. IMCA has long supported deep sea saturation divers and their work, providing guidance to ensure safe operations.

Allen Leatt, IMCA Chief Executive stated: “We fully respect and support the worthy charitable background and nature of this endeavour.

“As long-serving saturation divers, they know all about resilience; the importance of planning and preparation; and of being in peak physical condition.

“We are confident that their working practices of discipline and teamwork will stand them in good stead. We wish them well in completing their mission safely and reaching their own goals”.
