Travel-friendly BCD is light weight but not light on features

Oceanic Worldwide’s new Biolite buoyancy compensator weighs just 2.5 kilograms.

Pitched at the travelling diver, it may be lightweight but Oceanic says it’s not light on features.

The Biolite has an unusual blue colour scheme, and has an integrated weight system for those who don’t like belts.

Up to six-and-a-half kilos can be stowed within the Biolite’s pockets. The two pockets at the front have a ‘Quick Drop’ weight release design in case of emergency.

The right shoulder of this BCD has a carabiner for adjustment, with a self-adjusting sternum strap.

Interestingly, the waist band is described as ‘depth compensating’ – presumably elasticated.

The Biolite is constructed using hard-wearing Cordura, a tough synthetic fibre.

The Oceanic Biolite travel BCD is on sale now, retailing Stateside for $449.95, or approximately 300 pounds in the UK.

Oceanic Europe says it expects the Biolite to arrive here in mid-2011.
