Suunto Ocean takes dive and fitness tracking mainstream
Dive computer and GPS sports watch in one designed for adventures below and above the surface
Suunto has introduced the all-new Ocean, which fuses a feature-laden dive computer with other features for the outdoor enthusiast.
We’ve seen an increasing number of GPS trackers and lifestyle smart watches in recent years (notably from the likes of Apple and Garmin) and the Ocean looks set to cement Suunto’s place at the head of this field.
Each of these instruments boast features that would’ve been unimaginable a decade or so ago, but are now must-haves for people who enjoy active lifestyles.
Suunto Ocean dive computer
Packed into its compact wristwatch-style design are multiple dive modes, wireless tank pressure support, and an extensive set of alarms for scuba and freediving.
In our oft gloomy seas it’ll be easy to read, thanks to a bright and big 1.43-inch AMOLED display with easy-to-use buttons to ensure exceptional readability and usability in all conditions.
The Ocean has single and multi-gas dive modes for use with air and nitrox mixes.
An optional pod can be use wirelessly to monitor tank pressure during a dive, to a maximum depth of 60 metres below the surface.
It has dive modes for scuba and even technical diving, including nitrox and the Suunto Bühlmann 16 GF algorithm.
To enhance safety during dives, the Suunto Ocean offers an extensive selection of customisable audio and vibration alarms.
The rechargeable battery delivers up to 60 hours of diving and 50 hours of continuous outdoor GPS tracking on a single charge.
Dive location tracking
Most interestingly, Suunto is introducing a groundbreaking feature with the Ocean: the ability for users to view their underwater route in their Suunto app logbook after each dive.
Additionally, entry and exit points may be marked in the logbook.
This route-tracking functionality will be initially launched as a beta version and will continue to be developed further, ensuring users have access to the most innovative and user-friendly diving experience.
Suunto Ocean lifestyle tracker
After your dives, the Suunto Ocean seamlessly transitions into a companion for monitoring daily activity, everyday exercise, and more extreme exploration.
It has more than 95 diverse sport modes, ranging from trail running and cycling to swimming and yoga, each equipped with carefully selected default data fields for every fitness enthusiast.
The Suunto Ocean will be available in three different versions, each compatible with a wide variety of accessory straps for dive, sports, and everyday use. It is on sale now.
