Oceanic+ app available on Apple Watch Ultra
Two big names partner to create next generation dive computer
Woah, this is huge. Oceanic has teamed up with Apple (yes, that Apple) to turn the new Apple Watch Ultra into a dive computer.
Thanks to the new Oceanic+ app this partnership turns the popular smartwatch into a fully capable dive computer for recreational diving and/or snorkelling.
About Oceanic+
Ideal for UK recreational divers, the Oceanic+ system is compatible with air or Nitrox diving and is depth-limited to a recreational depth of 130 feet (40 meters).
After a dive the data syncs to your iPhone and the cloud
All dive metrics are simple and easy to read on the large, bright display. The Oceanic+ app launches automatically when submerged and constantly calculates and monitors dive parameters.
Intriguingly Oceanic says the app uses simple gestures to operate. The app provides all the safety warnings smartly colour-coded to make complex information easy to understand.
Before a trip you can plan your dives directly on your Apple Watch Ultra or on the Oceanic+ app for iPhone. The dive planner calculates the no deco time based on the depth value input, gas selected and surface time. Your iPhone location planner integrates dive conditions like tides, water temperature, and even up-to-date information from the community like visibility and currents.
Right after the dive, your data—including your GPS entry and exit location—automatically syncs to your iPhone and the cloud, where you can see a summary of your dive profile. In your logbook, you can easily sort and search your past dives and instantly share your adventures with family and friends.
Housing
Customers who refuse to leave home without their phone can now choose to turn their iPhone into an underwater camera and dive computer using the new Oceanic+ Smart Housing. You’ll be able to take colour corrected pictures while seeing dive computer information overlayed on your iPhone.
The Oceanic+ app is free and includes these options: depth tracking (including depth alarms), GPS tracking, logbook (up to 12 dives), snorkelling and more. For more advanced diving options such as No Decompression Limit, you can purchase a Paid Oceanic+ subscription plan.
US customers can currently pre-order their interest in Apple Watch Ultra and Oceanic+ – we’ll have to wait a little longer for this gem to arrive here.
