rEvo has chosen the name Basil for its new closed circuit rebreather.

The company held a competition online encouraging the public to think up a new name.

Up for grabs as a prize was a day try-diving using one of its machines.

Belgian company founder Paul Raymaekers chose Basil as the winning entry.

The undisclosed person who sent in the foxy-sounding suggestion has been informed.

rEvo says it had a good response, with tREVOr and trEvor other names up for consideration.

Let’s hope the new Basil CCR isn’t Fawlty. Boom boom.
